When I was offered this book for an honest review, I was excited because it is a topic WAY out of my comfort zone – but then I read the preface & 💥BAM💥 I was answering “yes” to a lot of questions, categorizing myself as a (not so much sex, but) love addict
I don’t even have the words to describe the ride this book took me on! It was funny & inspiring, eye-opening & humbling. I got the impression that the words Brianne used to write this book are exactly the words she would have used if she sat down with a friend to confess each story – & I felt like I was that friend!
This book is inspired by Brianne’s life experiences & her journey to recovery from her sex & love addiction. Prior to reading Brianne’s story, I would have agreed with the belief that sex & love addictions are made up, or an excuse for people to act out.. that is, until some of her stories started hitting closer to home… I was able to resonate with this book much more than I ever imagined.
As an actress in Hollywood, it was also really fun to read about celebrities indulging in activities or being in situations that you would never hear about! As Brianne points out near the end of her book, she has witnessed firsthand that fame & wealth do not always result in happiness & it was quite interesting to learn that the people we look up to, in society & on social media, do not always have it all together. Which, ironically, was a factor that fed into her addiction – her inability to separate what she saw on social media to what the reality behind the perfect picture may be. (Relatable?)
I am in awe of Brianne’s bravery when telling all these stories about herself; instead of worrying about the reputation she may earn, or names she may be called, she owns her truth & uses her words to let people who share her struggles know that they are not alone.
