Camryn Manheim Instagram – Last night I saw… “Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age”, And thank God he isn’t.
Alan is simply put… a joy maker! He carries motivational mementos with him from the people and animals that he’s loved and lost. He covers a myriad of topics including, plastic surgery, sex, The Little Mermaid, relationships(good and bad and the ugly tattoos that go with them), and a handful of his magical moments in Hollywood. We were all salivating for more.
He is flirtatious, wickedly funny and his dimples can make you turn red in the face. He is sensual and fluid and he surrenders to the audience when he sings his beautiful moving ballads. Alan is living his life out loud and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. You can just tell that everyone in that audience wanted to be his friend.
Alan and I did the film, Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion together in 1997. I had just seen him in the movie, “Circle of Friends” and was a little intimidated by him. But he turned out to be a glorious gem of a person and I picked him up and put him in my pocket.
It would be easy to say that part of his charm comes from his glorious Scottish accent, but truly, it’s just the icing on top of the most delicious night of storytelling.
A lot of names were dropped In his evening of songs & stories, including mine. I couldn’t be more proud to be a tiny part of his love story with New York City and the memories that have accompanied him on his adventures.
