As further evidence of this self-distribution-system, gut bacteria can alter your personality; making you more anxious or social and charming, or aggressive and violent (imagine being able to curate that ratio with a rectal suppository, lol).
New research thinks memories might even be stored in muscles, along with gut-brain-memory theory. The stomach and intestines have an extensive neural network that might store memories and influence learning similar to a backup harddrive (mine’s like the Little Shop of Horrors plant whispering for me to feed it sea urchin and lychees and making me say all my intrusive thoughts out loud at dinner parties).
I’d like to conduct more studies on somatic identity, for example the concept of “cellular memory” in limb transplant patients who claim to acquire new personality traits and propensities with the donor limb. If that turns out to be more than anecdotal conjecture, it has major implications for the nature of consciousness (which we must reverse engineer to transcend to next level of this cosmic video game)…
