Ellie Holcomb Instagram – I’ll NEVER forget last night. I’ve been pretty sick for the past 3 days and struggling a bit to sing at our shows, but last night my voice went almost completely out 30 minutes before the show. This = PANIC as a singer that close to show time, but @drewholcombmusic and I decided we’d play the show anyway. It was sold out in Huntsville, AL and people had come from ALL over the states to hear us . Drew said to me , “Babes, I’ll cover you , and we’ll let the crowd in, and ask them to help carry you by singing your parts when you can’t.” Y’all! It is VULNERABLE singing sick . I didn’t know what notes I would be able to hit and which ones would just be completely gone, but I am SO glad I didn’t let fear keep me from saying a surrendered YES to last night. One of my weakest and scariest nights as a performer turned into one of my favorite shows I’ve ever played. @drewholcombmusic covered my parts. The crowd literally carried me , and sang “I Will Carry You” for me when I couldn’t keep going, our crew brought me hot tea and honey all night, prayed for me, adjusted set lists and the sound in the room to make a space for my weak warbling whisper of a voice ! My spiritual director happened to be there from Nashville and prayed peace over me and my throat and my spirit , and I am here to report that encountered deep peace when it made absolutely NO sense at all to have it. I’ll never forget playing keys for Drew , while he sang my song , “Constellations”. I’ll never forget the kindness of that entire crowd as I limped my way through the night . Thankful for my in-laws who were there and prayed for me, for my manager, who kept the hot water boiling & @lipton instant soup in a cup at the ready for me, for the IV nurse who last minute came to the venue to give me an infusion of fluids, and to every single person in the crowd who lifted me up with kindness and grace when I couldn’t really do my job. We had to cancel the show tonight in Winfield & I’m on vocal rest for 4 days, but NO damage to my voice thankfully . Grateful for a living reminder last night that we don’t do life alone, and when we show up broken and honest, LOVE can meet us there! ✨
