Katherine Johnson, born in 1918, achieved her university degree at the young age of 18. Her contributions as a pioneering physicist, mathematician, and space scientist earned her the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. Together with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, she conducted the calculations that guided NASA’s 1962 Friendship 7 Mission.
