He argues that Gen Z’s mental health has been damaged by social media and smartphones, which he calls “the Great Rewiring of Childhood.” One path forward he suggests: creating new social norms around phone use and social media use, including waiting until high school to give kids smartphones. Today Florida took a step towards something similar. Gov. Ron DeSantis just signed a law banning Florida kids under 14 from having social media accounts, and requiring parental consent for minors under 16 to create social media accounts. (The law also requires websites that host adult content to verify the age of users, possibly by uploading photo IDs.) What do you think about all this?
