Kai Cech Instagram – Even though Kai does a lot of her own posting these days, I’m going to take this opportunity for a lil mom gush on the eve of Ba’s premiere. In late 2020, just as productions were starting back up, an audition came to her for a movie called “The Longest Sleep”. We initially thought she should turn it down. They were looking for a dancer and Kai had no dance experience. There were several scenes where Collette whistles and Kai couldn’t whistle but she wanted to give it a shot.
Fast forward to the callback, and the 🤯 moment when Kai and Director Ben realized that they both grew up in the same tiny Northern Ca town and that he and daddy even went to high school together. She was immediately at ease with this group of kind filmmakers and the callback she was so nervous about felt like a chat with old friends. A few weeks later, she had booked her first lead film role and we couldn’t be more thankful that @elizabeth_ai, @bencwong, @tracy_chitupatham and @bullockandsnowcasting took a chance on her. Also beyond grateful that @iamlawrencekao was the best scene partner/film dad and that their chemistry came so easily. This first film experience fostered a love of acting and created lifelong friendships.
