Rio’s drug trade has long been divided among three factions: Comando Vermelho, Terceiro Comando Puro and Amigos dos Amigos. Each faction controls specific favelas from where they organize the sale of cocaine which is distributed among the many users within the favelas as well in the middle-class areas.
