He was hilarious, sexy, loyal, fiercely and magnificently talented, vulnerable and tough as nails. He could rope a calf or steal a scene right out from under you in seconds.
We were pals but worked together once in his son Scott’s 2003 film “Dallas 362”. Not one to be overshadowed by a tallish actress pal, he insisted on doing our scene on a horse as I stood below him on the ground. The scene, a cameo that was the entirety of his work, ended up getting cut. I can’t remember why exactly but maybe because Scott couldn’t keep both of our heads in the same frame? We laughed about it often – the only film he was ever cut from – was his son’s…😆
Jimmy also joined my husband’s beautiful Starz “Magic City” tv show in our 2nd season as Sy Berman – a terrifying 1950s Chicago mob kingpin who visits Miami to set things straight with hotelier Ike Evans – played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Swipe left to see a bit of their scene.
His casting in Magic City also marked a sort of Godfather reunion for him and our friend Alex Rocco, who played Morgan’s father in Magic City and co-starred in the 1972 Godfather film with Jimmy.
We miss them both. Two amazing people, talented and beloved. RIP🕊
