Kelsey Edwards Instagram – learn from my mistakes and save yourself time 🫠
if i could tell myself anything at the start of my creative journey, it’d be this:
1. we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is to niche down and focus on one thing, but the truth is that when people are invested in YOU and your unique story/message, they’ll love anything you make. you don’t have to force yourself into a box.
2. trying to be what everyone wants you to be actually creates a huge disconnect with them, because people-pleasing is the antithesis of authenticity. when we present a perfectly crafted, watered-down, over-filtered version of ourselves, people can feel it & it’s less likely to resonate with anyone longterm. your level of success is directly related to how comfortable you are being seen, & the moment you start being more authentic in your life and artistic expression is the moment people’s heads start to turn.
3. your story is your power, and not just the good parts. your weaknesses make you relatable, and the most successful creatives, artists, influencers & entrepreneurs know that their story is the most powerful form of marketing for anything they create. people don’t have to resonate with every part of your story to find something in it that resonates with theirs.
4. it doesn’t have to be hard to make your dreams come true. we create our own realities, which means we get to decide how difficult something is. if we believe that things are too hard or impossible for us, they will be. you can choose that things come to you easily & that you actually have more success when you follow what brings you joy. when you create THAT reality, everything changes.
5. “who you know” is important, but it’s less important than actually doing the work that enables you to have something to offer & vibrate on their frequency. cut your networking in half and invest that time back into your work, your art & yourself. when you have more value to offer & your energy is aligned, the right people will manifest into your space anyway.
6. (bonus tip in the comments!)
