Nandini Sree Instagram – “Life can take us in novel directions and bring us to turning points when we least expect it. From planning to take up an IT job to making imprints in the media industry, life took an unexpected turn for me. I adore the life I am living here. While growing up in Dubai, everything started as a means for some ‘pocket money’. Beginning as a radio jockey for Asianet Radio Dubai was a decision that would transform my life’s course.
After moving back to Kerala, I got an opportunity to work for Radio Mango. I never had a godfather, relations, or local contacts established in the industry and being chosen by a big brand was nothing less than a dream come true moment. The time and effort I’d put in were starting to pay off.
The “Hello Namaste” show in the Mazhavil Manorama was another breakthrough in my career that shaped a presenter in me. Stepping in with a new presentation style, seldom used back then, I was outrightly rejected and trolled for being over-smart, loud, and even for my appearance. At one point, I even decided to quit and told my producer to proceed with a new anchor.
However, today, I am happy to admit I was wrong back then. My producer trusted in me more than I believed in myself, and it took me some time to realize the dynamics of audiences. It was a learning phase in which I graduated with love and support from the same audience. And now they like my ways and me as a chatterbox. It took time, a lot of time, effort, and self-trust.
At one point in my life, I was planning a career in IT. My current work is not something my parents wanted me to pursue. They wanted me to do a ‘9 to 5’ job and still worry that the industry will bring me an uncertain future. Many stories are often circulated about our industry, which makes outsiders sceptical. Such reports may be true or false, but negatives and positives are part of every industry.”
