Two 1-act operas by two composers from two separate worlds, both silenced by lethal prejudice: William Grant Still, a Black American genius shunned by racism and Austrian Jewish Alexander Zemlinsky persecuted by the Nazi regime. A night of rare diversity and excellence. Profound thanks to LA Opera’s Artistic Director James Conlon for creating Recovered Voices and bringing this extraordinary music into the light for the first time. Proud of our @laopera for championing the genius of these marginalized artists and ushering a spirit of diversity and togetherness into its halls. An unforgettable experience and two opposite climates on stage separated by an intermission with a dazzling-fast set change that will make your head spin.. true mastery in every aspect of this production. Hats off to @kanezaschaal who directed Highway 1 with such beautiful gusto ⚡️ I didn’t want to spoil the reveal of the Dwarf and let everyone experience it for themselves, so I didn’t include the footage, but suffice it to say @rodrick.dixon portrays him with breathtaking skill and emotion 🔥 We were all simply gobsmacked.. take whomever you love most and go experience this unprecedented event.
