Nathalie Kelley Instagram – We have sacrificed so much (nature, peace, community) in the name of “modernity” that it took a visit to @quilombomumbuca with @rotanativa to rekindle my dream of reviving a slower life -one that beats with the rhythm of the Earth, where water is clean and food is fresh and local… located in the Ecological Park of Jalapão, in the state of Tocantins, Brazil – you could choose to visit this place with guides from the nearest city, who exploit the land and it’s people for a quick tourism buck… OR, you could do as I did and stay in the Quilombola community itself and live amongst the locals, learning how they have managed to sustain these ecosystems alongside resilient food systems over hundreds of years. Supporting projects like @rotanativa help strengthen these local economies so that this paradise doesn’t turn into another monoculture wasteland like many other parts of Tocantins and Brazil. And if you can’t visit, please consider how you can replicate these kind of local food and economic systems where you live. I’m the first one to admit I don’t currently live in this way… but it’s the dream I’m actively working towards. Will you join me?
