URGENT CALL TO ACTION: PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT OF TANZANIA For those horrified by the recent trophy hunting in Tanzania of Amboseli cross-border bulls, please help! Your signature holds immense power. Please sign and share a crucial petition – see link in bio or search for Stop Trophy Hunting in N Tanzania to Save Amboseli’s Migratory Elephants on Avaaz.org – put together by @WildlifeDirect, @ElephantVoices, @amboseli_trust and @savetheelephants This petition is also backed by a unified coalition of signatories from Kenyan-based Conservation NGOs, wildlife filmmakers and photographers, and safari companies. We are all raising our voices for the protection of these magnificent creatures – please do so too! Bulls like 34 year old Esau (photo with Kilimanjaro in the distance) are in acute danger. See map showing movements of 8 collared bulls from Amboseli deep into Tanzania. Three more elephant permits have just been issued for trophy hunting in the West Kili/Natron area. The bull shot in Sept ’23 has now been identified by the Amboseli Trust for Elephants as Gilgil. He was 35 years old and only just entering his reproductive years. We’ve asked for transparency from Tz, but the hunters burnt the carcasses to hide the evidence. We suspect the other two bulls were also from the Amboseli cross-border population. For now Esau is still alive and has been fitted with a radio collar by an alliance of Kenyan conservation NGOs. Tanzania must honour the 30-year agreement to protect these iconic and increasingly endangered bulls. See article from a Tanzanian newspaper in 1995 mentioning the moratorium on killing. Please sign & share. Thank you! THIS HAS TO STOP! Please use link to petition in my bio, on my FB pages or at www.sabadouglashamilton.com. My bestie since I was seven years old re-meets her 6ft god daughter! How did time fly by so fast????
Wonderful to be with my old school friend from @uwcatlantic, Sarah Field, working for @sanddamsworldwide, introducing her to our very special community in north Kenya to plan how we can all work together to regenerate this wild and wonderful landscape.

Young bulls like 34 year old Esau from Amboseli, roam 40 km across the border into Tanzania, when not in musth, and are super vulnerable to unethical trophy hunters. He’s now got a collar thanks to @biglifeafrica @amboseli_trust, @maraelephantproject @savetheelephants etc. So I hope it keeps him safe.📸 Jeremy Goss/Big Life Foundation PLEASE SIGN & SHARE THE PETITION on Avaaz.org to stop trophy hunting of migrating elephants in N. Tanzania and to reinstate the 30 year moratorium. Link in BIO, on my FB pages & website: sabadouglashamilton.com

For the first time ever, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism & Wildlife came to speak with stakeholders in Samburu NR. We were able to discuss the existential threat to livelihoods & wildlife by the proposed Croc Jaws dam; wildlife corridors and ecosystem connectivity; roadkill of endangered species on the Isiolo to Marsabit highway, and much more. It’s a foot in the door so we hope now to get more traction on each of these issues. #thankyoumuheshimiwa, thank you Governor Lati Lelelit. Am so impressed by our passionate and engaged community in north Kenya #makingadifference

A magical evening @elephantwatchcamp with the moon rising just before midnight (at 22:22!) … like the glowing egg of a bird of Paradise, hatching in the dawn of a new year. It’s a great relief to bid farewell to what has been a painful and tumultuous 2023. And I’m hoping – with all my heart – that this coming year will be resplendent with health, happiness, joy, laughter, hope, love, peace, compassion, courage and a thousand blessings from N’kai to everyone … then ripple out far beyond the human family, with equal force, to bless and protect all species (especially the wild and endangered) and ecosystems that make up this exquisite biosphere on Earth. 🐍 🦋 🦂🦍🦛🦒🐆🐊🦎🦒🦚🦜🌵🍄🪺🌖💛
