Stacey Plaskett Instagram – In December of 2022, President Biden signed into law my bill (H.R. 7496) to direct the Secretary of the Interior to install a plaque at the peak of the Ram Head trail on St. John to commemorate the 1733 St. John slave rebellion.
As we begin V.I. History Month, my office will make our annual pilgrimage to hike the trail to Ram Head. While our ancestors fight for freedom and self-determination in the Americas was long standing and throughout the Caribbean, the area of Ram Head holds great significance as a marker of the enslavedās rebellion in 1733, which was one of the earliest and longest lasting in the Americas. During the rebellion, numerous revolutionaries gave their lives in the vicinity of the peak of Ram Head rather than allowing themselves to be recaptured.
This coming Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at 10 am (AST), my team and I will host a brief ceremony on St. John at Salt Pond, which will be followed by a hike of the Ram Head trail and the official unveiling of the plaque.
