Caption : In case you didn’t notice this in #InTheHeightsMovie: These two magnificent people @anthonyramosofficial and @melissabarreram performed their duet, CHAMPAGNE, together in a 3 minute+ one-take (No cuts), LIVE vocals (not prerecorded) shot in a real apartment (not a set) with movement, camera, live piano in their ear, dialogue on top of song on top of one of the most importantly HONEST scenes in the movie. And they did it with such ease it was like watching a master class of craft. Talk about a vulnerable place to put yourself in a movie. I can’t cut around them, I can’t fix their performances. Just them and the audience connecting. I will never forget that day. This is moments before we are shooting as they practice and goof around outside. You can feel their chemistry and confidence and you can see @alacamoire stressing in the back. (I am stressing inside somewhere). Oh and it’s hot as hell and because we have to record live vocals we can’t turn on air conditioning.

Caption : Most of my life I have felt out of place, weird and different. I hid behind my camera because people liked to be filmed and I could disappear. I used my short films to wow people so I could feel valued. I felt GREEN in all the ways. But when I saw Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s WICKED over 15 years ago as it was being workshopped in San Francisco I couldn’t unsee it.So to think that I have been invited to bring this timeless story to the biggest screens all around the world for people to experience with their family, best friends and total strangers…of all walks of life, ages, shapes and colors is like I’ve been invited to Oz by the Wizard himself. Thank you Marc Platt , Stephen, Winnie and Universal Pictures for trusting in me to translate this incredible story for all the fans and future fans of Elphaba and Glinda. I will protect this vigorously and hopefully bring a few new surprises along the way. So… who wants to be Elphaba and Glinda?

This is the moment the lights come up… Everyone worked so hard on every moment of this film but none of us were prepared to know what it would feel like when watching it back. Caption : The mannequin heads in the salon were NOT CG they were physically built and puppeteer’d. started with professional puppeteers then it became clear that they needed to be dancers to stay with the beat of the music so we got these two do it it 🙂 apparently @tmoneymiceli and @iamemiliodosal had the unique combination of not just dancers but also gamers. Here’s a behind the scenes look at how crazy it looked. Also this was very complicated/expensive to make and I was only 50% sure this would ever make it into the movie because it was so absurd. Caption : WILLOW UPDATE: I’m heartbroken to let you all know that I unfortunately have to step away from directing Willow. With the production schedule moving due to continued lockdowns in the UK, and with a new baby coming this summer (surprise!), the timing is just not going to work for me and my family. As you may know, Willow has been one of my favorite movies since I was a child, so I’m devastated that I won’t be able to work with some of my heroes old and new like Kathy, Ron, Jon, Wendy, Michelle, and the amazing cast and crew they’ve put together. Like a kid seeing Willow for the first time in the ‘80s, I will look forward to watching this magical new world unfold as a very enthusiastic fan. And boy do they have an adventure in store for you! Caption : There was a great moment in 96,000 that didn’t make it into the movie where Graffiti Pete played by @noahlot_gotit and Sonny played by @gregdiaz4 are freestyling together while the goddesses of the pool sunbathe around them. It’s really adorable and so much fun to see these two boys go off but we had so much in 96,000 that we couldn’t find a place to slip it in 😭🤦🏻♂️
