It’s a lot of work for me but it’s super gratifying. Sometimes I feel like mowing is the only time where I can be alone with my thoughts, which can be rare in this era of constant distractions.
I used to put on a podcast or listen to music while I mow but now I realize what I need more than ever is boredom. I need time to think. Time to pray. Time to reflect.
As a man, I feel like what I was missing was doing actual work with my hands – something that I really haven’t done very much while living in LA. that’s why I have so much fun building chicken coops or doing any home renovation projects. It’s a break from the norm, which I think is necessary for everyone.
Almost every time before I start mowing, I feel a little overwhelmed by the work, but by the end, I’m filled with a sense of pride and gratitude. I’m so thankful that I have land to be able to mow.
