Dean Lewis Instagram – Time for the true story about how this came about (since its going crazy on tok and so many of you were asking 😭); @itsruthb and i had never met, but our managers booked a studio in the hills of bel air in los angeles! She was coming over to sing a duet for a different song i’d written called “the last bit of us” but when she arrived we spoke for about 30 minutes and she had just gotten out of a relationship that was so fresh. I pulled out my guitar and we started writing this song about her life; where she was now and what she had been through. I felt shivers when she sung out the words “i dont sing, cause you’re still broken”… i felt that deeply. I dont know if people realise how deep that line is for her. I couldn’t believe she had almost given up doing what she loved!!! I wrote my verse from the other perspective, listening to what she had been through, i tried to embody the other side. When we finished 4 hours later the song was done. We put it out and then all of sudden its started to go viral!! Im so happy its found its audience x ruth is such a genuine person, and a true artist who isnt intersted in fame just creating real art.
