Dondré Whitfield Instagram – Every woman watching this (the ones who say they aren’t are either lying or are an absolute ANOMALY) are CRINGING and nervous at the sight of this. But this, for a father and a son, is ESSENTIAL in their bonding experience.
Two important things to focus on as you watch this,
1-If you listen closely to these boys, they are having a BLAST!!!! Couldn’t be having a better time than having their inner warrior/hunter/daredevil, activated and released in a safe place with their father. This isn’t something that they will be encouraged to do with their mother. They would be worried that they could actually hurt mom if they did roughhouse with her. Their instinct is to love mom and hug her. It goes against their nature to do this with mom. It would be very confusing. Because it requires the re-wiring of natures design.
2-this is an extremely important activity for dad as well. Because any man who denies or tries to repress his inner kid quickly becomes a depressed man. So we have to learn how to find ways to stay connected with the inner kid in us while simultaneously being the protector and provider for those around us. It speaks to our overall health.
While we are in this powerful month, I celebrate all the Black fathers who do the things that go unnoticed and and unappreciated. Being a father is the most THANKLESS job on the planet. Even when a young man or woman achieves greatness and gets a second on camera, the first thing they say is, “hi Mom!” You can’t find a restaurant to make a reservation on Mother’s Day. But on Father’s Day you could virtually walk in to the majority of restaurants that you know and sit down like it’s a regular day.
Being a father, particularly a black Father, is a thankless job, and for that I send a gigantic shout out to all Black dads. every day society is telling you that you don’t matter. And that you are replaceable and that you are optional. You are NOT. You are raising and protecting a nation.
