In a disappointing decision, the LA Regional Water Board recently greenlit the continued degradation of local waterbodies through the stormwater system.
They had the unique opportunity to improve the stormwater pollution MS4 Permit during its decadal update, but instead chose to adopt the ineffective 2012 version with loopholes that allow pollution with no penalties.
The Water Board is supposed to preserve and enhance water quality for present and future generations. Instead, their actions continue to excuse polluters. The insufficient accountability for polluters only further delays water quality progress in our region. The job of holding polluters accountable once again falls on us, the concerned community members and local nonprofit watchdogs.
