Today, on #Juneteenth, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States and we honor Black freedom and perseverance. We proudly stand beside the Black community and we vow to ensure that our ocean, waves, and beaches are accessible and welcoming to everyone.⁠

Although slavery was abolished over 150 years ago, systemic racism still permeates our society. We recognize that Black people are impacted daily by social and environmental injustice. Even our beaches and surf spots were—and in some areas continue to be— sources of racism.⁠

We can’t solve our environmental challenges without addressing our social challenges first. Racism has no place in our community and Surfrider is committed to ensuring a vibrant and inclusive beach culture for all.⁠
