Erlend Øye Instagram – Today on the entry to the area Pillirina there was this man telling me i couldnt enter. That the owners of the land has after 13 years won all the cases they needed to win in italian courts and that now this land and the neighbouring seaside is off limits to the public. And that yesterday the police came to give fines to the people who were there. And this would happen to us if we went there. This area has been of public use for at least 50 years. When i came to Siracusa for the first time in 2008, on the second day i was taken here. And it was the mix of the beauty of the historical center, with the wild and free seaside area of Pillirina so near, that attracted me to Siracusa and that made me buy a house here and move here in 2012. From what I understand; a noble person, Marquis De Gresy, @manu_di_gresy is behind the investment company Elemata that now will make this area private and construct houses here where there now are ruins. What is his motivation to do this? Does he think he is doing a favour to Siracusa? Pillirina does not need any “requalification”. Its perfect as it is. Cliffs that year by year erodes into the sea. Houses that offer an idea of past settlements, and relics from the 2nd world war, that tells history in its subtle way. In the windy spring months, here we can find a windshaded beach and pretend its already summer.
Mr Gresy, if you read this, please change your mind. I can sell my house in Bergen and maybe i can manage to pay for the costs you have had in all this time trying to procure the permits you needed.
