Artemis Pebdani Instagram – RP • @centerforhumanrights Women and girls in Iran are facing alarming levels of violence, arbitrary arrests, and discrimination as the Islamic Republic reactivates its forced-veiling police patrols. The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) issued a statement today, shedding light on the dire situation and calling for immediate action from the international community.

“For the past nine months, the Iranian authorities have witnessed countless girls and women peacefully defying the Islamic Republic’s forced-hijab law,” said Hadi Ghaemi, executive director of the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI). “In response, they are resuming their failing strategy of enforcing repressive policies against Iranian women while trampling the right to freedom of expression.”

“It is essential for the international community to stand with the women and girls of Iran and advocate strenuously for their safety, dignity, and fundamental human rights,” Ghaemi said.

Reports have surfaced of “vehicle and foot patrols” deployed across the country to “deal with” women accused of not adhering to the state’s forced-hijab law. Disturbing videos have shown women being assaulted by veiled individuals attempting to force them into white vans.

Join us in calling on UN human rights experts and Member States to stand with the women and girls of Iran and demand an end to this oppression. The UN Human Rights Council’s independent Fact-Finding Mission on Iran must closely monitor the situation on the ground to document any instances of escalated violence against women by the patrols.

Let’s use our collective voice to support the courageous women fighting for their rights in Iran. Spread awareness, raise your voice, and demand justice for those facing injustice.💪
