Here is the second part of PAWS’ answers to commonly asked questions related to the Killua dog-killing case. Included in them are some lessons worth repeating to emphasize the importance of both responsible pet ownership and a humane animal control system.

The case has shone the spotlight on the fact that the reason for non-prosecution of animal offenders is not because the law is weak, but because of the refusal of many witnesses to file cases. In Bato, Camarines Sur, long before the Killua case, stray dog capture and killing by tanods and bystanders was rampant. The dogs end up in a known “ slaughterhouse” in the area.

It is hoped that Killua’s case will put an end to many acts of animal cruelty in the area. With your help in this fight, we can protect animals and humans.
