I’ve switched to reserve mode.
Like a machine overheated,
Like a story over told.
Like a heavy wet washcloth
In the bottom of the tub
Wondering why I’m still there
Cold and un-wrung.
I haven’t had the chance
To reflect how I can
How I always used to
when I was just a woman.
I know it’s just a season,
At least that’s what they say.
Nothing lasts forever
I’ll return to “me” someday.
But me is different now
Will I still have my spark?
Will it be even brighter?
Now that I’ve doubled my heart?
It’s easy to look back,
And see a “better” me…
So why not decide, right now,
I’m as perfect as can be.
Lazy mornings will return
I’m sure I’ll even get bored,
And ready to write it all down
Reflect on this life I so adore
Just saying it out loud
Helps my brain take a breath.
As a wise friend often says
The alternative to getting older,
is death.
I’ll take the deal I currently have
All tired eyes and sticky knees
Because I know what it’s like
