Chloé Hayden Instagram – Correct autism terminology is something that allistic folk tend to be incredibly uncomfortable with; they’ve learned ‘politically correct’ terminology based on what they believe, without actually considering what they’re actually saying, or the impact it has on the autistic community. I’ve been in the public eye for some time now, and rarely have I had an interview where the interviewer simply says ‘autistic’, always bouncing between various other filler words, because our social understanding of autism is scary, wrong, taboo. I am autistic. Journalists, interviewers, media professionals that follow me; if you’re going to discuss the fact that I am autistic. I ask of you to simply say the word. It’s okay, the world isn’t going to explode. (But I might if I see one more article saying that I ‘suffer’ or ‘live’ with autism)
