Having to say “Adios” to our legendary @congaroom 😢
For 25 years it has been the beloved hot spot for showcasing Latinx music, ALL styles & dancing the night away…and an important gathering spot for our Latino/x/e community!
Thank you @officialjimmysmits @thepaulrodriguez @bradgluckstein_ @jlo for seeing the need 25 years ago and making it happen!!

A long time ago…
On a set long since torn down… In this clip of the very first episode,
@georgelopez and @goconstance got to do something that had never been done before. We got to make comedy MAGIC!

We got to represent a Latinx family just as we are.
A funny family just trying to get through the day and life’s hurdles with a sense of humor!
We were not cliché, nor the victims needing to be rescued, as the Latinx community was usually is portrayed anytime we were featured on a show.
WE and all our beautiful shades of brown were the stars of our own show!
And in 75 years of television history, no Latinx show had ever made it past 13 episodes! And we,
did SIX years!
We made it to syndication!

I cried every time we hit a new milestone! Just ask George!

And because of our show,,,
GENERATIONS of young Latinx children will never know a time when empowered, rich & funny Latinx characters/faces were not on their tv!!

I think our show taught tv executives that we could pull in the numbers and make money!It was a milestone, pushing for better representation for our community!
And things have improved!
But considering the huge demographic that we are in this country,
And the huge economic power we are,
We need more.
SO EVERY TIME YOU see a Latino/a/x show on tv,
WATCH IT!
And tell your friends!! because if TV execs see that a lot of people watch and it brings in ad sales, they will make more!
WE have the power!!

I had never actually SEEN him perform because, I was always on stage as well!!
I haven’t seen him in person in 37 years, but he was just as funny, warm & unbelievably talented as I remember!!

It was raining buckets and 49 degrees!!! Even so, the audience was packed!!
Peter and the band were SO GOOD, the audience DIDN’T CARE! His version of David’s Rebel Rebel has me in tears!

In 1987 I was always remember him being kind to a me, a young 21 year old dancer who was completely inexperienced to the rock and roll world. His sense of humor was the best!!
