Joey got some film developed and it feels like a little secret doorway back into some very dear memories from this year. The most beautiful Tennessee snow day, perching awe-struck beside the Grand Canyon, my grandma’s cute cross-stitch, reveling in the perfect mid-Summer breeze in Rocky Mountain National Park, the bittersweet final days in the very first house that we made into a home together, and the pure ecstatic joy of sledding at White Sands. And this first one here, this one in the checkered sweater — Joey snapped it a couple weeks ago to finish out the roll of film, and said it turned out to be his favorite one of all of them. ☺️ What a beautiful life. This year was not at all what I thought it would be when I first ventured into it on January 1st, and I would be lying if I told you that I have not had to grieve that a little — that year that I thought I would have — but it has been full of such love and so much goodness, and I am deeply grateful. 💕

Happy birthday, my dearest love. Life is so good with you. ♥️ I wrote this song (in the last slide) for @joeyciccoline two summers ago, as a little wedding gift. I still don’t exactly know how to grow old — or how to do any of this, really — but figuring it all out, and building a life alongside Joey is an absolute gift. 🥹 “I don’t know how to grow old Because I learned to read in a library Of heroes who died at 23; A simple life’s a mystery to me And then came you, unexpectedly To feed all that’s good and true in me.” ♥️

On Monday I turned thirty and crossed the threshold into a new decade of life ✨ I am so grateful for all of the gifts, the lessons, and the wonderful people that this past decade has brought me. What a blessing to have crossed paths with each of you. ♥️ It would be impossible to capture it in a few lines, and ridiculous to try, but here are a few highlights that I’m savoring: ✨ reading books that will stay with me forever and ever (and there was light by jacques lusseyran always comes to mind) ✨ becoming an auntie to 3 more nieces 1 new nephew (then gaining 3 more, by marriage!) ✨ marrying @joeyciccoline on a perfect Summer morning in Iceland ✨ every bit of artistic creation collaboration I was part of: writing producing my first short film, releasing a single (Holy Magic!), guest starring in some wonderful shows playing lead roles in my first features ✨ organizing fighting for a better world with some of the most wonderful humans I know through @amnestyusa ✨ the most awe-inspiring travels (mostly with @joeyciccoline @amber.wms.ford and @elizabethblloyd 😍) ✨ playing Betsy in @cobrakaiseries — it brings me so much joy to be part of the Karate Kid Universe, and to see the way it brings people together across generations. 🥹🐍 ✨ feeling so, so tiny in the Redwood Forest ✨ spontaneously driving the whole Blue Ridge Parkway with my sister and finding incredible folk music history other hidden gems along the way ✨ meeting @w_potrzebie by chance in New York City when I helped him find his bus stop, then having a friendship that has spanned almost a decade, two continents, and tons of sweet adventures 🥹 ✨ adopting a tiny backyard urchin (kitten) that brings me an outsize amount of joy every single day ✨ discovering the pure happiness of growing flowers ✨ getting to take my lovely mom to Europe (thanks to @kpalmerenator !) ✨ the kindness goodness of everyone I’ve met through @in.the.firelight and the profound connection I feel with each of you your stories 🥹

Thank you so much for the kind words of birthday love encouragement yesterday — they truly meant so much. 🥹♥️ This was a year of monumental and unexpected and wonderful changes. (Adopting this little backyard urchin was one of the sweetest twists and turns my life took this year, hehehe 🥰) Our first pet, our first house (together), and now, this very weekend, we’re launching @in.the.firelight — which would not have been possible without so much support collaboration from so many dear, brilliant people that I love. I am grateful, and nervous, and excited to see this little fledgling begin to take flight tomorrow. 🙈 These are only some of the highlights, of course. There was struggle, and discontent, and grief interwoven throughout this year too. And yet, it’s comforting somehow to know that this is how it is meant to be — this is what it is to be human — and we are “built to live simultaneously in love and loss, bitter and sweet.” There is no one I would rather live it all with than you, @joeyciccoline — the bitter and the sweet ♥️

If you haven’t been invested in the Heathcliff Saga, scroll on by — but if you want a very long but very joyful update… here it is. 🐾 One sunny morning last August, we went out to water our garden and were met by a tiny stray kitten. He marched right toward us, meowing the saddest little meow you’ve ever heard. The grass hardly seemed to bend under his meager weight — which the vet later told us was only 1/2 pound. 🥺 I named the little backyard urchin Heathcliff, and now I will never again listen to Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights without thinking of those tender, happy Summer days spent nursing this little creature back to health — taking him out on all my garden walks, and letting him sleep in the palm of my hand while I worked. 🥹 From the beginning though, I knew that keeping him was not an option. @joeyciccoline is highly allergic to cats, as are multiple close relatives of ours that we love to host in our home. Even if that weren’t the case, we sometimes have to travel often, and we worried about who we could rely on to care for him. 💔 Fast forward to January. Thanks to the sweet generosity of amazing friends, we had a forever home lined up for little Heathcliff… but things suddenly changed when my highly-cat-allergic sister came to visit. Imagine our surprise when she had ZERO reaction to Heathcliff. We realized that alllllll the allergies Joey had been having off and on had been completely unrelated to him. Somehow this little baby cat that turned up in our yard and stole our hearts ALSO turned out to be a miracle low allergen kitty. 😵 If that was not enough, our dear friend @beckalyn5 has become his beloved home away from home, so we know he’ll be safe loved whenever we need to be away. I know this is a rather long explanation of a rather tiny miracle… but so many of you have been so sweet about following the journey of our little Heathcliff, and I wanted to let you know how things turned out. So, it’s official. Heathcliff/Phantom/Ol’ Longbody Ciccoline… welcome to the family! 🥰♥️
