Gina Torres Instagram – Here’s a “reel” Throwback Thursday #tbt memory…. 17 YEARS!? How? 😱. For me, this movie represents an actors journey in so many ways. 1) I wasn’t their first choice. To be honest, probably not their 2nd or 3rd or 4th. 2) I had primarily done TV shows. And not a lot of leading lady roles at that. So my expectations for booking this were super low. 3) I was 38 and had started to quietly put away my teenage and 20something dreams of what I thought success would look like. And had decided to just be happy with my life. I was a working an actor. That in and of itself was a huge accomplishment. And so I understood that part of my job as an actor, is to show up where work is to be had and try to beat the odds. And that’s what I did. I even auditioned for the part that the luminous @kerrywashington eventually played, because Chris wasn’t sure where to put me. And then I got the call. “We will NOT be moving forward with Gina” 😩😢 Weeks went by. A friend of mine went in to audition and told me my picture was still up on the wall. How odd. 🤔 A few days later, came the call that they had reconsidered and offered me the part! 🙏🏽🤗 Later that year I became pregnant and booked a television show that shot on the Fox Studios lot. While shooting, promotion began for #IThinkILoveMyWife As I approached the lot my jaw dropped. There we were, Chris, Kerry and I on the biggest billboard I had ever seen. 👀😳😂 I fulfilled my commitment to myself, and then I let go and let God and left room for magic (that came in the form of a beautiful daughter)⭐️❤️✨ Thank you Chris Rock for trusting me to be your wife…eventually ☺️ They even put Chris & I on the soundtrack 🤣. https://youtu.be/hHgYOz3QS3k?si=eHi3KfBWmRILVaFB Did y’all see it??? You big hair & curly girls know it’s not about washing it out and styling everyday….
