Jane Goodall Instagram – Have you met Mr. H? 🐒 This monkey plushy has been with Jane on many adventures — including when she was named a @unitednations Messenger of Peace (last slide)!

Mr. H was given to Jane by Gary Haun (slide 2), a man who lost his eyesight at 21 years old, who pursued his dreams of being a magician despite the challenges of working in a field known for visual techniques. As Jane often shares, Gary initially thought he was giving her a chimpanzee plushy, until she had him feel that Mr. H had a tail (chimpanzees and other great apes don’t have tails, but monkeys do).

Jane was deeply inspired by Gary’s story, and so she decided to carry Mr. H as a symbol of the indomitable human spirit — one of her four main reasons for hope!
