Jane Sibbett Instagram – I had a moment to breathe and found this photo that my childhood crush @mattgeorge_in_deep took of young surfer @mattyliuhawaii@and me 30 years ago! How I love following Matty’s grown life now, and seeing his own kids carving their own waves. So sweet! I also just finished listening to another inspired Matt George interview on Spotify for his book, In Deep. And because my brother was so bowled over by Matt’s storytelling and called me up raving that Matt’s writing is some of the best prose he’s EVER read, I have to share. Yes, I’m partial to Matt’s work way back when he was the editor of Surfer Magazine, (around the time of this picture in the mid-80’s), but when my PhD brother thinks everyone would LOVE the stories of In Deep, whether you were raised surfing or not, I have to give an extra shout out. On this day Matt George taught me about the Church of the Surf and how I had to respect the power of the ocean. He was right. I always have. Matt’s been instrumental in supporting and covering female surfers from the beginning of his days as a journalist, and is also a screenwriter, filmmaker, film and tv producer, actor, former pro-surfer, a first responder/EMT, and beautiful man helping wherever he can.
