Lucy Liu Instagram – Hello friends! My name is Ariana Vaida and I am a proud @UNICEFUSA Youth Representative (shoutout to the Southeast)! I would like to express my gratitude to Lucy Liu for using her platform on #WordChildrensDay to represent young voices, including my story in climate action. Inspired by young leaders of our time, like @gretathunberg and @mikaelaloach, I have taken it upon myself to advocate for farmers suffering from the impact of increasing temperatures, greater frequency of natural disasters, and extreme precipitation events on a local level. Earlier this year I started a video-based learning project about the pressing issues of climate change that stemmed from my realization – many of my own peers and adults I interacted with were not familiar with the intersection between the environment, food, and social justice. After years of witnessing farmers’ markets at the core of communities and sustainable practices implemented in local farming, I hoped to engage with youth about their values surrounding food and the consequences they have personally faced from climate change.
In light of COP 27, UNICEF’s recent Climate Call To Action calls on leaders to protect and prioritize children as the detrimental impacts of rising temperatures unfold. ( continued in comments)
