Marlhy Murphy Instagram – I always say that my songs come from real experiences in my life, and this one is as real as it gets. We wrote this just after my debit card had been declined for the first time (for a $7 coffee which was HUMILIATING). It was so frustrating for me that I felt like I’ve been working hard to figure out my life, and something like this could still happen and completely tip everything on its head. I felt so pessimistic about everything and didn’t want to talk about it because I was worried I would just depress everyone, so I tried to pretend everything was fine and nothing happened. But, since Jordyn and Christian are some of the kindest and most understanding people I get to write with, I felt comfortable opening up and telling them what had happened. It felt really vulnerable admitting this in a song, but I felt like it’s something a lot of us go through, and it doesn’t mean you don’t have your shit together or you’re doing things wrong, you’re just figuring it out. Everything will figure itself out at some point, or that’s what I keep telling myself lol🧡 also the video for “Debbie Downer” is completely ridiculous and wonderful and I’m so thankful for my friends Hunter and Theo for being puppeteers with me. Lots of the bts to share from this one! The intro of the video is of course an homage to Rachel Dratch 😊 | Posted on 19/Apr/2024 21:38:35
