Megha Mathur Instagram – #Joram through the gender lens
Speaking at a panel discussion hosted by eShe TV, producer @bose.anupama and actors @smitatambe
@meghamathurhere and @nimmyraphel delve deeper into women’s roles in Hindi cinema, and touch upon issues that matter…
Making gender-conscious films: Anupama Bose, Humanising the antiheroine in cinema: Smita Tambe, Using acting and performative art to ignite social change: Megha Mathur,
Bringing together the best of Indian theatre and cinema: Nimmy Raphel
“Directed by Devashish Makhija, #Joram features women in key roles: Smita Tambe Dwivedi plays the antiheroine Phulo Karma, a bereaved mother seeking ruthless vengeance for the murder of her family. Nimmy Raphel plays a Maoist rebel chief in the forests of Jharkhand, and Megha Mathur plays the role of Phulo Karmaās ever-present, tech-savvy sidekick.
Actor Tannishtha Chatterjee makes a special appearance as Dasruās wife Vaano, whose murder in a poor urban settlement in Mumbai sets off the thrillerās chain of events.
The film not only offers a layered portrayal of women characters ā giving them nuanced back stories for psychological authenticity ā the cast and crew also attest to gender-conscious treatment on set and behind the scenes.”
