Pua Case

Pua Case Instagram – In commemoration of April 2, 2015.
Nine years ago as I raced up to the mauna with Chief Caleen Audrey Sisk at my side, we began receiving the texts of who was being arrested on the crosswalk and I asked my dancers to make sure every single one arrested was chanted for as they were driven down in the police cars, vans or paddy wagons to honor them and recognize their stance, and their courage.
We stopped at the crosswalk and my chanters jumped into the back of the truck and up we went. The vans with those arrested at the summit passed me as we drove up. When we arrived at the top, I saw Hawane and so many others who I hold deep in my heart and what came to me then was just chant, chant to regroup, chant to strengthen, chant to have courage, chant to remember who we come from, chant to stand! And we did!
mahalo Ehitu Keeling for this footage, I treasure it….” From @leina_alawho
“As Ruth Aloua and I were being transported down the mauna in the police vehicle, we desperately tried reaching aunty Pua Case by cell phone, and FB, stretching our arms as far as they would go, and it proved to be a difficult task with the zipties, but we had no reception. As we descended the mauna, we saw her truck heading up, and we knew right then that everything was as it should be.” From @nopili
2 ‘Apelila 2015, Lā 8: Nine years ago today was the day that the first arrests on Maunakea were made (second encounter with TMT). Some ‘ohana arrested at the crosswalk, county district, for obstruction of the road, some ‘ohana arrested at the gravel road, state jurisdiction, for obstruction of the road, and ‘ohana arrested at the proposed TMT site, state jurisdiction, for criminal trespassing. #31 A day that awakened our lā hui and the world.
