As Maebel Gebremedhin writes in the @nytimes, “Tigray stands as one of many stark examples of what happens when conflict-related sexual violence goes unchecked.” It can lead to an absence of accountability for perpetrators and justice for survivors. It threatens to undermine hard-fought progress for women — and men — around the globe. We cannot remain silent. We must heed Maebel’s call and loudly condemn rape whenever and wherever it occurs. And global leaders must make it clear sexual assault as a tool of war will be prosecuted.
