Donal Logue Instagram – A pretty magical night years ago. @kirkfox and I went to Israel, Egypt, and Palestine. We drove to Acre and Eilat and Nazareth. We ran up Masada. We made friends in the old city and in Tel Aviv. At a small cafe across from Rabin Square we met a guy who invited us back to his apartment. He asked if I played guitar and I said, “Not well,” which is true, but a lesson why it’s good to have a minimal proficiency on some musical instrument because it leads to some fun times in life. His name is Baldi Oliver @olierbaldi and I didn’t know that he was one of the best flamenco guitarists in the world. (In this video, he goes off like Al Di Meola or Paco de Lucia.) In the old city, Kirk and I became good friends with Haj fathi Jabari and traveled through the West Bank. We met Palestinian Christians in Bethlehem who were in dire straits since the tourists have long ceased coming. It didn’t matter if they had very little, we were still invited into their homes and offered tea and food. We had Shabbat dinner in Jerusalem with my dear friends the Harmans and had an absolutely haunting, beautiful, and magical time in the Sinai with a guy named Mohammed (who I couldn’t reach after the Arab Spring). He took us to his village where we smoked hookah and locals brought us pita and hummus. Afterwards, we climbed Mount Sinai to the tiny church and mosque on its summit. What’s happening right now in that part of the world is too heavy to understand and no one needs my two cents. I just pray for peace. | Posted on 24/Jan/2024 12:30:44
