Following a raid by the Israeli army on her home, Mrs. al-Sawada, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, was separated from her family and found deceased in her granddaughter’s burned bed, her remains reduced to charred bones. The soldiers, despite being implored by her family to release her, callously refused, leaving Mrs. al-Sawada behind as they assaulted al-Shifa Medical Complex and its vicinity in mid-March in western Gaza City. For two weeks, the family did not know Sawada’s fate after they were forced to leave her behind. They later received reports from neighbours that the army had set the building ablaze. But they could not return to the building to see if the grandmother was taken out before it was engulfed in flames. On 1 April, the Israeli army withdrew from the area and the family finally reached the home and found Sawada’s charred remains. We will tell her story, and we will not forget. Indya Moore Instagram – Voices of Palestine is an independent group of artists, producers, media makers, advocates, and humanitarian workers, mobilizing our platforms in this critical moment to amplify Palestinian voices on the ground, and to raise resources for urgent evacuations and material support for Gazan refugees once in Egypt.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who donated, Voices of Palestine raised forty thousand dollars with the first two rounds of posts, making it possible for SafeBow to finalize our registered evacuations, and to build out our collaborative work with Denizens Society and Project Watermelon, both who provide material and medical aid for Gazan Palestinians once they are in Egypt.

So much gratitude to Dr. Abu Warda, Daiana AlBukhari, and Afaf AlNajjar for sharing their personal stories from the ground in Gaza, and to Rowan Blanchard, Sara Ramirez, Cynthia Nixon, Poppy Liu, Ashley Lukashevsky, Alana Hadid, and everyone else who has amplified their voices.

The Voices of Palestine initiative helped SafeBow reach its goals, and now we hope you’ll join us in sending love and resources towards the urgent work of Denizens Society, a trusted group that is supporting Gazans arriving in Egypt.

The people of Gaza are calling out for the world to witness their resilience and hopes. Please join us in responding to that call urgently, and from the heart.

Join us in taking action now.
