“I fight for freedom. I fight for the American dream. I went to jail on July 17, 1960. Because I couldn’t use the library. I went to jail because we could not use a downtown eating facility. And that struggle has not stopped. In some sense, we all fight for the American dream. And the American dream is under assault. If the American dream is one big tent, all of us live with equal protection under the law, equal opportunity, equal access, and fair share. The dream is under attack. And so why do I fight? Because every city I visit, Chris, there are two new buildings, a new ballpark, and a new jail. And somehow, locking youth up rather than lifting them up is not right. And so I fight.” ✊🏾✊🏾
