It was a great milestone and honour for me to perform Rakugo yesterday in French, at one of the most beautiful theatres I have ever performed in – Espace Libre in Montreal. The audience was very kind and forgiving of my French – even offering a standing ovation. Not deserved at all, but I was very moved and look forward to performing more and more in French from now on. Thank you so much to Nico Fujita for producing the show! Two more shows, today and tomorrow.

A little piece of Japan in Cambridge. (Well, not so little…) Yesterday I had a reunion with my old and dear friend Kumiko. She and her family created the Japanese Sake brand “Dojima”, brewed on a gorgeous estate near Cambridge called Fordham Abbey. (The Dojima sake brand actually goes back 500 years in the Kansai ) Kumiko and her brother Tadakazu spent the whole day making Sake (the main process takes one month of the year), and yet Kumiko took the time to make “Gyoza” – we jokingly called it “Sunakku Kumiko”. A “Sunakku” from the English “Snack” is usually a tiny drinking place run by a “Mama-san” who is a middle-aged owner who has great hosting skills. People pop by for a drink and some simple snacks, and maybe sing a Karaoke song or two, but mostly they come to meet the Mama-san. Calling it “Sunakku Kumiko” was funny in a few ways – Kumiko would be the youngest “Mama-san” I have ever met, and the venue is far from tiny – it is an estate. LOL. I was also fortunate enough to have a few cups of their Sake – and I mean fortunate – it sells for £1000 a bottle. The sake itself is beyond words delicious – true to the sake’s history and the gorgeous environs it is brewed in. It was amazing to meet Tadakazu for the first time! Seven hours went by in a blink and I was sorry to leave – but see you all again soon! Gochisousama deshita! #japan #sake #dojimasakebrewery
