And next I want to try – just try, mind you! – to change the world. In a positive way. This essentially means leading by example. The Best Party wants to be a good example. We strive for honesty. We are against violence. And where others see problems, we provide solutions. All this is extremely tiring, but it’s what we’ve tried to do.”
Jon is not an economist. He is not a political science professor, or a general (Iceland has no standing army anyway). He is an artist, a writer, an actor, a musician, a creative, a thinker, a talented connector of humans and a leader who translates empathy into effective policy. He is an honest citizen and public servant, motivated by the love of his people and the world, who celebrates what makes Iceland special – resilience, uniqueness, creativity, and a can-do attitude, and tries to make government serve the best interests of its citizens, instead of having citizens serve the best interest of government leaders.
Iceland’s citizens vote for their next President on June 1, 2024. Iceland is governed by a Prime Minister, and the President is a figurehead who represents the nation, and can veto parliamentary action. Jon has pledged to use his office, should he win it, to represent the best parts of Iceland to the world, and to use his powers to align the actions of Iceland’s government more closely with the will of the people.
I hope all my friends in Iceland, and friends with friends in Iceland, will support Jon and fight for a better, cleaner, more transparent, and more humane government around the world.
