Rob Greenfield Instagram – A decade-long journey has come to completion.
I have finally liberated myself from industrial clothing!
I am now wearing completely homemade, natural fiber, naturally dyed clothing!
Down to the fiber, buttons, thread and dyes.
My wardrobe consists of 19 items, each of which I have a deep connection with.
No logos… No brands… Just the elements of the Earth.
Over the last 8 months I have immersed myself…
I have learned about different fabrics, fibers and plant dyes. I have sewed, knitted, felted and dyed. I have harvested plants and prepared dye baths. I have overcome many moments of overwhelm and confusion in a realm that was new to me. I have seen the magic of black walnuts and indigo in contact with cotton, linen and wool, creating colors that enlivened me deep inside.
I have deepened my connection with Earth and taken another substantial step away from consumerism and materialism.
Although I put in over 100 hours of work into these clothes, the community put in just as much or more. My success exists as a result of the many community members who supported me with their knowledge, skills and resources.
This marks a chapter on this journey of liberation. At the age of 37, I intend to spend the decades ahead in clothing of this manner. Clothing that represents my own liberation as well as a symbol of the liberation Earth and humanity can have if we learn to foster harmonious relationships.
In truth, the journey is not over. In the years ahead I intend to spend a chapter close to the land and grow all of my fibers from source and take part in every step, directly in contact and harmony with the land that I am on, to make a wardrobe that is fully from one place on Earth and can fully return to that place.
Ultimately, this is a move forward in readying myself for my eventual mission to return my body to Earth, completing the cycle of life in harmony. I dream of every item I own returning to Earth with me, fully embracing my impermanence. To me, impermanence is a universal truth, and this is what I seek to be a part of.
