Robert Patrick Instagram – As I look back at the magical time in my life that was Terminator 2, I really have several people who if they had not done what they did, it would not have happened (Darryl Marshak, Mali Finn & Steve Quail). Fortunately my instincts were correct and what I was coming up with would eventually be in the film. I remember leaving the first meeting on a high! That night I got a call asking me to come back the next day because Jim Cameron had responded very favorably to my audition. The second day I showed up and it was me, Jim, and Steve Quail (on the camera) basically doing what I had done before but with Jim asking me to explain my process and luckily,he approved. Both days I had shown up wearing all black and a motorcycle jacket, essentially what you see Arnold wearing in the film. After the second day I was asked to show up a third day and I was taken to a room and presented the script. I so clearly remember reading it and my mind was blown. I now knew I was going to be the new Terminator and I started to feel pressure. It took me about 5 hours to read the script and visualize the cgi concepts (that had never been done before). To calm myself and bolster my confidence, when I was finished I walked into Jim’s office and said “I can do this!” Jim looked up at me over his glasses and said “I know you can, that’s why you are here!” I think he could sense that the enormity of an unknown like myself being giving the role of a lifetime was dawning on me. The next day I did a screen test in the police uniform at the stepfamilies house asking for John Connor. It went well and the next day I received a phone call from my agent telling me my life was about to change, I had been cast in the biggest movie sequel directed by the unbelievably talented James Cameron! I threw my (landline) phone and screamed to Barbara “I got the part”, we were both over the moon with excitement, it was like winning the Super Bowl…we laughed and cried. What a gift T2 has been. I am forever grateful.
