Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Instagram – True story: Twenty-one years ago, my pal @mdoers and I worked on getting an “Archie” musical off the ground. (I can’t even remember how we first connected. It was just one of those New York things, I guess…) I wrote a treatment and some scenes. Matt wrote seven or eight songs. We didn’t have the rights. We didn’t have a producer. We just did it and shopped it around. Met with a lot of people. Some encouraging, most skeptical (and rightly so). Over the years (decades!!), Matt and I stayed friends (and have worked on a couple of other projects). Cut to: 21 years later, four of Matt’s original songs are the basis of #Riverdale’s last musical which just aired—“Archie the musical,” as conceived by Kevin Keller and Clay Walker. And directed in real life, beautifully, by @ronaldpaulrichard. Was happy to get to raise a glass with Matt tonight to toast his songs. Thanks, Matty.
