Stuart Vevers Instagram – Thank you @cfda, @indrerock and @ralphlauren for having me last week! It was great to come together as an industry to discuss fashion’s impact, to share learnings, and create more spaces like this to articulate our view of the future. 🌎
During the pandemic, I became a father. It was a time with a lot of change and, as many of us experienced, great uncertainty about the future. The unprecedented challenges of these unprecedented times forced me to reflect on what matters most to me: our responsibility to people and the planet, the life cycle of fashion, our communities. This had to become an opportunity to accelerate these things. I thought, ‘If not now, when?’ ⏱️
While I had been passionate about sustainability in my personal life for some time and was exploring ideas in my work I wasn’t sure how to truly grasp the opportunity of approaching sustainability from a designers perspective 🌎💙
But we took a step—we introduced our first collection designed with longevity in mind, #CoachForever. A collection rooted in our strengths of longevity and 80-year history of repair at Coach. The runway became a lab for prototyping and learning, and learning from what we made. This spirit of prototyping small ideas to understand the possibility at scale —inspired Coach (Re)Loved, our first circular program, and what we learned from (Re)Loved became a bit later, @coachtopia 🩵.
Often, I think, that as an industry we over emphasize sustainability as the work of the teams who source materials. But @Coach, we are working in a way that brings all the teams together in this conversation — designing in collaboration with impact in mind from the start.
A product starts with design, as we know, with obvious material choices and silhouettes. But we also know how a product behaves or performs once it has been released into the world has to be considered in that first design—including its potential for repair, or multiple lives. | Posted on 11/Apr/2024 03:30:00
