Remote and isolated rural villages that seem almost exempt from the passage of time have thus fascinated me for years now. Opening a gate to our past.
These places are becoming less and less common however as younger generations no longer want the rural lifestyle and move to live in cities instead.
As I spent time researching where our next epic travel expedition could be, I landed on Ushguli, in the stunning and underrated country of Georgia. Rumored to be the most isolated village in Europe, we dove deeper into research, only to find that there may be an even more remote and impossible to access village deeper into the mountains. So we went to both.
It took us 2 months to find safe enough weather window to access the second one however.. ⛰️🚁
