Actually, worse than unchecked, excused by saying he was “pushed” to do it.

Claiming to be feminists and doing this gives men like this the opportunity to say “well, two feminists agreed with me on their podcast” while also spreading their message.

Content like this is the foundation of patriarchy and can trigger survivors, and cause them to feel even more shame than they already feel while also emboldening men to believe that this kind of language is okay if someone is “pushed” hard enough. We are all responsible for our own actions. No one else is to blame, particularly when saying that a woman should be “muzzled” by her husband.

The ripple effect of supposed feminists platforming a man like this creates a ripple effect of misogyny and shame for victims of abuse. At the core of abuse is the narrative that “you pushed me”, “you deserve this”, “you want this to happen to you”, “you can’t help but upset me”. Rhetoric like this has the ability for abusers to harm their victims without even contacting them. The mental battle with abuse survivors to believe that it was not their fault is almost a daily struggle. When we excuse men’s poor behaviour by blaming the recipient , it’s the start of a long road of oppression.

I messaged Ella and Dom expressing my views, you can hear the message in my podcast. They didn’t reply, instead decided to double down on their social media and dismiss any form of criticism.

We all make mistakes, but it’s how we respond that matters. Putting click bait listens above the wellbeing of listeners is incredibly concerning.

P.s. it’s not “problematic” to support a vaccine that saved millions of lives.
