Adjoa Andoh Instagram – #ad I have partnered with @indelight to bring the world of Regency-era elegance to everyone’s favorite modern-day date: coffee. For singletons looking to find their match, here are my three tips on modern-day dating. I encourage you all to court your very own Duke or Duchess over a cup of coffee inspired by all the flavor, feelings and indulgence of International Delight Bridgerton-inspired coffee and creamers! @BridgertonNetflix @shondaland
Tip One: “Chivalry is Not Dead.” A huge foundational element of etiquette in terms of courting has to do with courtesy. You need to give your full attention to the other person and it’s easy to forget to do so with the fast-moving pace of dating apps or in the atmosphere of a bar or pub. However, it is as important as ever to hold onto some of these chivalrous gestures in all aspects of dating and relationships. Some of my favorites from the Regency-era are writing letters, composing poems or songs, giving flowers, pulling out your partner’s chair, offering your coat and of course no cells in the Regency-era as it gives more space to fully engage with the other person!
Tip Two: “Respect Boundaries.” In Regency-era dating, chaperones were essential if one was to avoid serious social repercussions. While in many cultures’ chaperones might not be a necessity today, respecting personal boundaries and comfort levels ensures your date or partner feels at ease. Again, a relaxed coffee date is a great environment for achieving that.
Tip Three: “First Impressions are Everything.” Now that might sound a bit superficial – that’s not what I mean. In the Regency-era introductions were usually extremely formal, made by a mutual connection and overseen by many interested parties, family, society, etc. However, what we can take from that is the thought and care that goes into that first meeting: be on time, listen, be open-hearted, be respectful and be generous. Get ready for that connection if you get a sense of it and be kind and honest if you don’t. Of course, it’s an important journey but as Lady Danbury encourages – life can be fabulous so enjoy the adventure of it all! | Posted on 18/Mar/2024 21:21:20
