Those fleeing conflict and crisis can be stuck in limbo for weeks, months or even years, struggling to access safe accommodation and other vital support. Women and children also face increased risks of violence and exploitation while on the move. In Trieste – an important arrival point for refugees in Italy – the International Rescue Committee (IRC) runs a daytime Safe Space for women and children, as well as working with local partners to deliver a range of other services.
