Angela Trimbur Instagram – @thecut asked to cover the ATDA (Angela Trimbur Dance Academy, a real yet “fictitious” school’s) very first BALLETCORE RECITAL: ‘What Dreams May Come True?’. An homage to my mom’s 1990 children’s dance school recital “When Dreams Come True’.
My goals was for all the Company Members to heal their relationship with dance via: feel the thrill of an audition where everyone got in it’s just how you signed up, tracing a finger to find their name on a piece of paper on the wall in class to see what routine they were cast in, bond with their team while working on crafting costumes and choreo, tasting the backstage dressing room hairspray from a fellow dancer as they got ready, quietly settle in on stage behind a curtain…hear it open…dance their heart out with a rare techniquelsss freedom…hear thunderous roars from the audience (who also played a part) and have flowers thrown and bouquets handed over by their friends and families- feeling adored and celebrated for their vulnerable boldness.
All in a world where they could do no wrong and they got to care about something that has nothing to do with their careers…just pure fun for themselves.
Twas incredibly special and I’m quite honored that @emilyleibert and @sara.messinger of The Cut had their watchful journalist eyes and ears thru the process. And thank you Emily for calling Miss Angela “The C*ntiest Ballet Master In Manhattan”.
